College Horizons

 

On February 12, 2009, Levantamos welcomed in Rio de Janeiro the six youth who are participants in the second edition of the College Horizons program.  Levantamos, together with the U.S. Consulate in Rio, is administering the program which is set to conclude in 2011.  The program’s objective is to contribute to the educational and professional growth of Afro-Brazilian youth as an affirmative political action. 

 
The participants are enrolled in English classes at the Brazil-United States Institute (IBEU) and pre-vestibular courses, and will participate in monthly cultural activities.  Aside from this, they will be paired with and engaged with mentors, who are accomplished Afro-Brazilian professionals in Rio de Janeiro.  The mentors will accompany the participants’ academic and personal development.
